A poem exploring one's spirituality
Hail Mary,

Full of grace, Mother most pure
He is with you

Like flies around my brain
Ring around the rosie
Ring around my brain
Ring around the collar
That chokes me like
Communion.
Like the subtle serpent in the
Garden beneath the hedge of roses,
A sorcerer conjures the clouds
Making a stick look like a serpent,
A stone like a scorpion.
Blessed art thou amongst women.
Hail Mary, Daughter of God the Father
.
My crucifix hangs low
Caressing my breasts like a groom.
Tease me like a young
Schoolgirl who allows the boy to touch
Her virgin breasts but refuses to
Move on, refuses to sacrifice herself
For his death.
And blessed is fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Won't you be silent and let me pray.
Pray for forgiveness, for the poor, pray
For the church, for the sinners,
For prayer's sake. Holy Mary, Mother of
God, pray for us sinners. Hail Mary,

Spouse of the Holy Spirit.
The Madonna looks down.
The moon under her feet, her head
Crowned with a twelve star
Crown and her veil embroidered
With a bright, bright star.
Sweet Madonna,
Like a Pentecostal preacher laying hands
On a sinner, trying to baptize in
the Holy Spirit, holding my tongue.
