the comfort of darkness
you used to breathe with me
lying together
skin on heated skin
a shared cocoon
holding in the night

with the dawn
the we became you and I
two instead of one
facing the brutal light
without shadow to hide behind

in the dark
I could believe you were true
when you promised I was the only one
that caught your blinded senses

come away, again, into the dark
I’ll lose myself in dreams
of you, where the world goes away
leaving only you and me
someday, day will never come

the sun burns away charms
turning pearls to paste
and sweet words to poison
