Memories of childhood joys and of a longing to return to innocence.
Sliding Home

There were deep mud puddles

At Uncle Bob’s

After the rain

Or smack dab

In the middle of it

You could find us

Soaking wet

Filled with laughter

Filled with magic

Filled with the power

Of family and friends

Dancing, sliding

Crawling through the puddles

Like little piggies in love,

Those were the days

Of dreaming and believing.

Those were the days

Of pop-a-fly you’re up

Remember freeze tag?

And spinning and spinning

Staring at the stars

Till we all fell down

Drunk and laughing.

Wearing socks for mittens

To fly down the hill

Towards the creek

In the snow.

Red faced joy

Breathless loving sacred

Glow of knowing

Really knowing companionship

Connections, belonging

Not just with each other

But to each other.

Where did that feeling go?

I got lost

In the big world

And found it hard

To come all the way home.

But I am almost there now,

How about you?
