Written in facebook chat in 2009. Imperfect, but it will stay that way.
Once upon a time there was a bush. This bush lived in a garden full of lots of other bushes and trees. All the other bushes and trees were splendid colors, with beautiful flowers growing on them. Nowhere else did any such plants exist.
This bush however, was not colorful, and did not have any pretty flowers. The other trees and bushes teased this bush.
"ha ha", they said ",you are plain and boring and have nothing special about you. We however, are incredible and special."
One particular tree, which was the largest in the garden was especially boastful, and spent much time putting down the bush. "You are just a small bush with dull colors and no flowers. You have nothing special to set you apart. I however, am the biggest and most beautiful tree that ever was. At this, the bush began to cry. He cried for several days
Time passed, the bush spent time wishing he had grown into a big, beautiful tree. Now near this garden was a palace and in this palace lived a beautiful queen. This queen enjoyed taking walks in the garden. One day, as she was taking walks in the garden she noticed the bush.
She thought to herself it is not very big or beautiful, but in a garden such as this, it must have some amazing purpose that is yet unknown to it.
One day, the queen fell terribly ill. All the potion makers and healers came to try and make her better, but none could. Finally one old woman came up and said, “I can heal the queen. Just let me go into the garden.” The other men said, “you are but an old bat. You are mad. No one could heal such an illness. She will surely die.”The old woman stomped on his foot and said, “I will show you.”
She had the palace gardener take her into the garden. "I had this planted here many, many years ago. The leaves from this plant will heal the queen.”
The great tree in the garden heard her coming and said, “I know she will come to me. I am the most splendid tree ever.”
However when she did not come to the tree, he just moped.
She passed through the garden, and each plant wondered if they would be the lucky one.The small bush thought there is no way that it could ever be me. He was then surprised when she stopped in front of him.
"I planted you here years ago because you have the most powerful leaves here. When properly brewed, they can heal anything."
She took a few leaves from the bush and made a concoction to heal the queen. She took it to her, and when the queen was better, she asked to see which of the plants was the one to heal her. She smiled when the old lady took her to the little bush.
"I always knew you were the most special of all the plants here. Thank you."
