Don't let the title fool you.
The Girl with Silver Bracelets

Her long, flowing hair, blonde and matted
fully covered her dazed, blue eyes.
Her friend didn’t notice and left her,
unaware she was close to demise.

The room, getting smaller, was spinning
with colors so bold and so bright.
She was scared of the drug and was tripping.
Alone, she passed out, no more light.

Hours later her friend tried to wake her,
she was cold and wouldn’t respond.
Though her friend fought to revive her,
the fight was in vain, she was gone.

Confused and in tears, the friend pondered:
Should she call the police or take flight?
She was the one who had given the pills
to her friend who had died tonight.

The girl searched her soul, gathered strength,
called police and reported the crime.
At the scene, she was questioned at length;
silver bracelets were donned from behind.

Though her time behind bars is now over,
the memories have remained to this day.
Her best friend died, and she killed her,
and her guilt is the small price she pays.

Author's Note: This poem was originally written for a contest.
The prompt was: Use the words "Silver Bracelets."
Thankfully, it was not a personal experience
