A poem about trying to get where you belong
Out of the Woods

Underneath the canopy
My compass spins tonight
Thought I was out of the woods
Thought I caught a sight
A sight of a night clearing
A sight of stars unbound
The vision left me fearing
A nightscape still unfound
This shroud, it leaves me reeling
This foliage, this veil
This mask, it renders feeling
Anesthetised and pale
Burnt out by the moonlight
That filters through the trees
Shafts that drive through midnight
Celestial starlight bleeds
Bleeds into the morning
Ebbs into the dawn
Pulsing cautious warnings
Flow out with a yawn
Answering our yearning
To live unfiltered free
Questioning our hearing
The visions that we see
As sun slants through the curtain
I try to follow streams
Rivers that I’m certain are
refracted by sun’s beams
and spiralled ever inwards
To the clearing inside
To where my lies run freely,
and where my truths reside
Underneath this canopy
It ends as it begins
Thought I was out of the woods
Yet still… my compass spins
