A lesson learned from laziness and relying on auto-correct Spell-check
190 words

Trust Auto-Correct Spell-check, Anyone?

My awareness in misspelling “interment” came too late to redo the copies of the program I prepared and printed for my father’s Interment Service.

Using this big word for the first time, I spelled it with an “n” between the”r” and “m.”  The program showed “Internment Service” boldly.  Despite my qualms, I went ahead and let it ride; after all, Spell-check had cleared it. No squiggles to alarm me.

Still, a nagging thought pestered me.  But I was too lazy to consult the dictionary, confident in relying on auto-correct Spell-check to do its job.

Three days later, I came across the word again as I read the obituary.  This time, my curiosity piqued because the word did not have an “n” the way I spelled it on the program.  Trying to shake off my uneasiness, I consulted the dictionary. To my dismay, my spelling boldly printed on the program was wrong.  I felt like pulling my hair out and crawling inside his coffin to hide there for good for my careless mistake …. After all, I pride myself as a world-class speller! This embarrassment taught me never again to trust auto-correct Spell-check.
