flash fiction entry
With his electronic ear piece Mark took less than a minute to open any safe, usually. He felt a bead of sweat begin to roll down his neck. Then he felt something else, cold steel against his temple.

Mark lifted both hands above his head. “No need to use that. You've got me Mr. CSI.”

“Chris with Montrose security. Not CSI or police.”

Mark tilted his head to glimpse his captor. Chris had an average build, short hair and sported a black suit. He held a chrome revolver which was now aimed at Mark's midsection.

“I hope for both our sakes you can get that open. It has some information I need to relieve my boss of.”

“So you were going to steal it then you noticed me?”

“Security camera with a view to the safe but not the dial. So, can you crack the code?"

Mark sighed and wiped sweat from his brow.

“Open the safe and you live. Failing that my associates vigorously question people of interest. Often too vigorously.”

Mark bent down again and gripped the dial. He closed his eyes trying to focus on the sound of the tumblers coming through his ear piece.

“Not to distract but I'm out of position and need to check in within three minutes.”

Eyes still tightly closed Mark commented. “No pressure then.”

An audible click came from the safe. Chris focused on the now open safe door. Both men noted a small envelope laying atop a stack of green bills.

A second click came from the direction of the door.

Mark turned and saw another black suited man at the door. This one held his gun directly at Chris.

With some levity Mark injected. “So who gets the envelope?”
