All good things...
Awash with dramatic autumn colour,
Feet were squelching beneath those trees,
Amending each other,
Our hoods were flapping in the breeze
As we traipsed through fallen leaves.

Apologies mostly went unsaid, we knew
Our wrongs and what we wanted,
I loved you,
As though what happened never mattered,
We held hands in the rain and kissed.

Across the open muddy field we walked,
Drenched and nippy, still holding hands,
Happily we talked,
"Forget the past, okay? I understand,"
You said, "We'll carry on as planned."

And that we did, it's how we went,
We'd forget the bad, go back to being us,
Time better spent,
We would smile then amorously discuss
What was in store that night for us.

It happened again like this many times,
But we always found a way to reprieve,
We always tried,
Until the end when I watched you leave,
And I thought back to those autumn trees.
