A poem of pain
A Shadow of Pain

By

J.Lee McKenzie

She knows more of hate, more of anger,
Degradation is her only childhood memory,
Leaving a being torn,
A spirit only a flickering shadow,
Too cowardly to snuff out,
A creator without mercy,
Standing firm behind a faith she canât seem to find,
But itâs not real, her pain, they say,
Bitterness lay heavily upon her heart,
A capsule of spikes not heavy enough to kill,
An omnipresent serration forever stinging,
Forever weighing,
Forever in screaming pain,
Every move desperate,
Swallowing with a smile,
A smile thatâs never quite good enough,
Slicing on the way down and prodding spikes in place,
But it doesnât really hurt, they say,
Itâs just her imagination,
The pain, the humiliation, the degradation, the spirit she canât seem to mendâ¦..
Itâs all her illusion,
Her memories mean nothing,
The bitterness is never warranted,
She deserves not her tears of pain,
The bleeding should not slow her,
Itâs an inconvenience,
Undeserving of rest,
For sheâs not truly weary,
She does not deserve to scream,
It hurts our ears,
To acknowledge suffering,
No matter the intensity she claims,
The lack of love,
The onslaught of hate,
The lack of happy memories,
A pain that suffocates.
