Partying stranger thanks a stranger to help him get back home.
Close Encounters Of The Best Kind

While scraping the mud off the sidewalk after yet another torrential rain storm, I noticed something else besides the usual ooze. I picked it up and rubbed it against my jeans. It turned out to be a worn out quarter, so I put it in my pocket and finished up the cleanup operation.

My jeans were filthy so I tossed then on top of the mountain of dirty clothes down in the basement and then headed for the steps; that's when I heard a metallic ringing. I turned around just in time to see that worn old quarter spinning on it's edge and then fall flat. I stroll over to it in my boxer's and pick it up, but upon closer inspection, the coin turned out to be something that had the shape and size of a quarter, but this was something else.

I pull a tee-shirt from the man-sized pile of laundry and wipe the coin until it sparkled like a diamond and it was stamped with images of things that I never saw before, so I thought I'd take it to the pawn shop and see if it was worth anything.

I open the door to my pickup and push all of the beer cans out of my way. I had to slam the door four times before it would latch, but this old junker never let me down; that is until I was in the middle of nowhere and it was getting dark. As I walked along I came upon a phone booth, Weird! A nasty old phone booth out here on this desert road, so I took the coin from my pocket and plunked it into the coin slot. When I placed the receiver to my ear the phone began dialing by itself and while I tried to figure that out, everything outside began to shimmer and then a black hole appeared right in the middle of the distortion.

A guy who looked just like me,crappy clothes and all came strolling out of the hole and held his hand out palm up. "Thanks for finding my navigation system. I've been looking all over this planet for it. I'd been partying pretty hard one night and when I regained consciousness the damn thing was nowhere to be found. I can't find my way back home without it."

"Yeah, but dude! The coin's in that pay phone."

"That not a phone, dude. It's just a prop so I could get the coin out of your pocket without a lot of hassle. Check it out!"

The phone faded away and the coin was just laying on the ground. He stepped up to it and it jumped into his hand. He slid it into his pocket and then gave me a pat on the back. He pointed to the hill I had just walked over and said, "Why don't you walk back over that hill? I think you'll find a present for you."

I looked toward the hill for a moment and when I looked back he was gone, just like that. "Freaky!" I did what he said, and when I got there I found my truck in showroom condition; and to top it all off, ther was an ice cold beer sitting on the seat.

Now that's what I call a close encounter of the best kind.

Later!
