self-awareness...souls eternally evolving
                             "When I Was Born Older"

                   There was a reasoned time when I was born old.
         Upon my destined arrival, my valise was full of familiarity,
                   and knowledge teeming to be told.

                   Ancient souls are forever evolving.
         Scratchers and healers; all lives seem to be learning anew.
                   Each circle grows stronger with its revolving.

                   On rough hides and pretty parchment to recall;
         many winters counting for the marks.
                   And timely matching rings of trees, as wide and tall.

                   Keep dreaming there will always be another summer
         to warm the heart's vacant rooms.
                   I beseech Dear Essence of Me, awake to remember.

                   Pilgrims trek straight and narrow highways.
         Drifters and searchers are encountered
                   each time turning a bend on winding byways.

                   A journey to seek magick of a frigid desert night,
         and wade meandering mountain streams
                   by the early morning's misty light.

                   Even long cold shadows capture beautiful colour.
         Feathered songs and dance in birdbaths under a noon's sun,
                   I beseech Dear Essence of Me, awake and remember.

                   Climb craggy cliffs and shout victory to all tomorrows,
         carefully claim crawdads from a bayou's sluggish hand,
                   and nap lazily in marigold covered meadows.

                   Dig dangerously among the gem stones hiding,
         receive blessings for treasures found in family and friendships,
                   and accept patience in love's slow biding.

                   At a seasoned time, I was born among the elders;
         more than a sage, both before and beyond.
                   Dear Essence of Me awoke, and now remembers.
