Don't Go Out There  -  293 words  --  Entry for 3/19/2015

Carla is a coworker that I can't completely avoid, but I limit contact with her to what is absolutely necessary. She is so annoying that spending just a little time with her leaves me wondering just how bad a bullet to the brain could be. Truth be told, she has a magnificent high horse that has her looking down at everyone.

Today, after exhausting all other options I had to bring an issue to Carla. As anticipated, she listened to half the problem - hearing less than that - and decided only she could deal with it. Standing so quickly her chair shot backwards, she grabs the papers and orders “come with me, watch and learn.”

We left our office and walked half a block to City Hall, a beautiful, historic stone building currently undergoing renovations. Scaffolding was being erected all around the outside, and we had to duck into a makeshift entrance. Having only seen the first floor I was excited, despite the inevitable confrontation, to realize we needed the third floor.

Carla’s abrupt, rude behavior had her pushing past the receptionist and entering the administrator’s office unannounced. Flinging the papers on his desk, she shared her opinion, refusing to listen to anything he said. Once satisfied, Carla spun on her heel to the outside door and began unlocking the many locks securing it. Refusing to let him speak, she complained “You even lock people in here.”

Just as the last lock opened the administrator shouted “don't go out there.”

Carla strolled through the open door and disappeared, leaving only a scream behind. It seems the staircase had been removed for the renovations.

I awoke from my dream with a smile, wondering if her high horse saved her.
