Better to have loved and lost...
Afterglow

The afterglow, now embers
Now memories and dreams
Still the heart remembers
To my stilted mind it seems
That night, we bottled lightning
Cut it to the bone
So close, both calm and frightening
In marrow we atone
In the marrow it’s remembered
We danced, we twirled, we turned
We swirled, shapes in the fire
And watched the pages burn
Our tome shone oh so briefly
But oh so brief, so torn
Words, sentence forming tightly
Paragraphs and chapters born
Birthed and quenched in fire
A phoenix to the flames
A torch both held with ire
And passion all the same
But all the same remembered
Underneath time’s stains
In the marrow, in the embers
The afterglow remains
