A sonnet for my feathered friends
Though I fly high and free soaring far past the tallest trees
Beneath the blue skies the wind beneath my wings
From my place in the sky looking down my heart weeps
For below the forest I once called home has changed
The sea of green that stretched forever has withered away
The trees where so many of us lived gone
Most have left to find a safe place to live
In a world where all is free I fly till mornings ends
Just as the sun goes down I take one last look and sing
Though you find it cute it is a song of lost
The loss of so many trees that at night when I dream
I dream of when it stretched for miles and the sky was filled
Filled with colourful feathers and the songs
When the sun returns I will fly till I see the sea of green
