A friends father died suddenly this past week, I wanted to write them a poem.

-Father, Friend, The End-

Father
Friend
The end
Death
Sadly
Has come
Just another step
One beyond me
One beyond us
I’ll stay behind
As you wait ahead
In peace
I know that you’ll rest
In the presence of God
I know that you’ll sleep
No lesser the man
Greater
For having ever been
Shinning
Will be your light
Just like your life
All around you will smile
All who knew you
Those who went before
Will again be close
They’ll hug you well
Confessing that they
Have long since missed you
But somehow knew
That you were expected
All of us who remain
Will be even closer
To you and each other
We will feel you
We will know you
We won’t forget
Death will do little
To lessen the memories
Of all that you meant
Father
Friend
The end
Nothing can change
What has happened
Presently little
Can make it better
But as it’s often said
Time heals all wounds
In that we all must
Find a way to believe
And for a time
It will be all that we have
Our saving grace
In this new world
Without you
We’ll see you again
I know it in my heart
In my very soul
All of us are here
And you are there
We’ll stay behind
As you wait ahead
But in the end
We’ll see each other
Again…
