In a rush to get nowhere quick, this poem is my version/vision of that simple, true idea.

-A Desert of Pavement-

Streets
Intersections
Perilous
Are such decisions
All leading away
Many revealing
New directions
Opposing dereliction
By embracing
A change in direction
A desert of pavement
Which way to go
Is not as clear
As it once was
But such a lack
Of indications
Has changed little
The travelers keep coming
All of them searching
All of them heading on
Assumptively to a place
They are sure they belong
The automobiles zoom by
Metaphorically like life
Each of them
Speeding lunatics
Getting somewhere quick
Once there
Once classified as clear
Abruptly they leave
Checking off
The destination
Setting a new one
A different place
Than all else
All roads lead home
Except for the one
That they are presently on
It leads further away
To a place unknown
To a place unexposed
For them, they must go
They must proceed
Vicious is the cycle
Righteous in the circle
They have strong faith
And sometimes they don’t
When they finally stop
When they find a place
One they can call home
Only then will their faith
Be stronger than ever before
This
A desert of pavement
In a jungle of nothingness
That they now find themselves
The world speeds on by
Each intersection
Requires a decision
One they alone must make
There is no turning around
Never can they go back
To from which they came
Left, right, forward
Even, and if need be
Remaining stagnant
Possible indications
Plausible directions
Each road is riddled
With crater sized potholes
And awkward speedbumps
Each road, well traversed
There is wreckage
Burned chassis of many
Vehicular atrocities
The dead are there
Twisted up and mangled
Waiting on a salvation
That for them will never come
Along the journey
They may see another
Heading their own way
But they cannot stop
And even if they could
They probably would not
A desert of pavement
Floods the landscape
All roads lead somewhere
And all intersections
Present a method of change
Regarding the road
In which are now on
Each choice must be made
And each decision must be faced
Until finally where they belong
Where they will remain
Is somehow reached…
