Some events scar us for life, and we need each other to move on.
Battle Weary (or I will carry on)

It was so long and once upon
a time when thing were bright.
The world was mine, a feast to dine
the targets in my sight.
And then it came, a scorching flame
that seared my heart in pain.
Some friend lost, others tossed
to wolfs for someone’s gain.
...With the sirens song
...I will carry on, yes I will carry on
But I fought on, the glamour gone,
my frayed hope was getting thin.
For those still here, I set my gear
forward facing with a stern hard grin.
The nights alight, with bullets flight,
the quit, then the screams.
The backup soon, I pray it’s soon
not the commanders will it seams
...When all is gone
...I will carry on, God help me carry on.
Only two years, yet oh the tears,
my battles are never through.
Cold sweat nights, my demons fight,
my family has no clue.
A sudden sound, I hear a round,
then I’m back to my darkest days.
My world is blurred, my speech is slurred,
reopened wounds as it slowly replays.
...The nightmares hang on,
...and I can’t carry on, help me carry on.
My friends who stayed, their heart displayed
the actions that were gentle or tough.
They’ve kicked my ass, or let me pass
when things got a little ruff.
I’ve swallowed my pride, I cannot hide
from the past that shapes me so.
But I’m moving on, a fractured dawn
yet still the steam will blow
...When alone among the throng
...I will carry on, with friends I’ll carry on
To those I’ve known, in battle thrown
Some dead, some work to be alive.
I salute you my friends, whatever bitter ends,
I was lucky to know you and I will strive
to be there for you, on the days I’m not blue,
to pray that some friends will arrive
to kick your sweet ass, on the evergreen grass
from your drinking at that seedy dive.
...When your day is long
...I will carry on, together we’ll carry on
