Cultural Setting

Penterra

The land of Penterra is divided into four kingdoms; Trellion, Adoren, Bastion, and Reaven. Each kingdom is ruled by a royal family; Trellion by the Hallowfangs, Adoren by the Starmanes; Bastion by the Terranroars; and Reaven by the Blackreavers. The populous in each kingdom is made up of different kinds of people, except Adoren who are all humans.

Bastion's populous consists of creatures that are half men and half animal; Minotaur, centaurs, merfolk etc. Their ruling family are made up of Manticaurs and Sphinxes. Each race of half-men worships the animal they are share aspects of. The Minotaurs worship the Taurus the Great Bull. The Manticaurs and Spinxes worship Leo the lion. If a child is born on the first day of a solar period he or she is named after the constellation the period is named for; Taurus's father Virgo was born on the first day of Virgo. Taurus himself was born on the first day of Taurus. Due to their half animal nature Bastion's cannot use magic to manipulate the natural elements of life.

The kingdom of Trellion is made up of humans, elves, and dwarves. Bastion citizens are welcome in Trellion but they choose not to live there. The Trellion's believe in the Great Spirit of creation. They celebrate the changing of the seasons with various festivals on the Equinoxes and Solstices. They hold smaller festivals on the mid points of the seasons such as Beltane and Candlemas. Trellion citizens who are able to use magic are sent to the Trellion Tower of Magi to be trained in the use of their gifts. The Tower of Magi is ruled by a Grand Enchanter or Enchantress. After spending the fourteenth year of life at the Elemental Coast using only magic to survive, a mage is able is chosen for apprenticeship. Once of those apprenticeships is to the Royal Magus, the advisor to the King on issues regarding magic.

Unlike the other three kingdoms Reaven is ruled by a mage. Trellion and Adoren have lawa forbidding mages from holding positions of power above the Royal Magus. Reaven originally started as a penal kingdom. It was where Adoren and Trellion would send their undesirables.
