Long live Rock and Roll.

With music I am never alone,
be it Ozzy Osbourne, Elvis Presley,
or Metallica entering as Sandman,
or the ever melodic Cyndi Lauper
offering Time After Time, or even
the hip-hopping moon-walking
energy of Michael Jackson, honoring
Billie Jean (how can you beat it?)
And so I lose myself
like loose keys
among autumn leaves,
bask in manic riffs and beats,
guitars alive and free,
the snap of snare and
keyboards adding mood.
Bands like Styx and Stones,
songs to Light My Fire
preserved like gold
in gray matter.
Neurons flash a firestorm
of musical memory...

...only yesterday I was Back in the
USSR
, (Beatles‘ White Album),
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Rocky
Raccoon
and dear old Martha.
A Rush of blood,
AC/DC electric in the spine,
Kansas, Boston, Chicago
and I am in the Driver’s Seat.
The Animals that come and go,
Steppenwolf, Turtles, Stray Cats
and butterflies made of iron.
Some jazz adds to the show
as Steely Dan eyes ELO,
and maybe Peter Frampton
feels the way I feel,
as Country comes a-truckin’ home
from Asia to Sweet Home Alabama.
Despite dinner music, Folk, Reggae,
I’d rather stick to rock and roll.
