A poem about a mother cat and the runt of the litter. Unfortunately, based on true events
Little One

Shh, little one,
little little one,
stop your mewling cries to me.
Look at all your greedy siblings,
look how they suckle at my teat,
so stop your crying please and eat.

Shh, little one,
little little one,
stop your mewling cries to me.
Come lay with us here in a mound,
come feel how warm it is and sweet,
come stop your crying please and sleep.

Shh, little one,
little little one,
stop your mewling cries to me.
I know this life I gave is pain,
and never will you pounce and leap,
but please cry no more - not a peep.

Shh, little one
Little little one
Stop your mewling cries to me.
I will carry you gently now,
Gently into the forest deep
And when your crying stops I'll weep.
