In memory of Mom.

Today we honor Mom’s memory.
We do so to remember her spirit,
her good natured humor,
her devotion and her never-ending
compassion and love.

She breathed life into an ordinary world.
She gave it color.

Even at 92,
she was spirit.
Even at 92, her smile was kindness.

A face of happy greeting, warming,
like sunlight.

She always had time
to pause,
to visit the concern of others.

We may grieve for ourselves
that she is no longer anchored
to this Earth,
but we can celebrate her, always.

I will recall, Dear Mother,
the joy you found,
that spirited strength you repeatedly displayed,
the impact of such a genuine love that was you.

I thank you for your selfless devotion, your values,
your gentle wisdom, your essential thoughtfulness.

And when stars
crystallize in ebon skies,
I shall find you there,
among the imprint of eternity,
and know that this world
was made that much better, simply
because you graced it with your love.

For you Mom, may you rest in peace.
