My entry for the contest Whispers of the Soul, Round 32!
You smile at me and I come undone,
my very being trickling between your fingers.
And you keep smiling and smiling,
smiling until you cannot anymore.

You smile as though
you have done no wrong,
yet
your words bite at my ankles,
drawing blood.

I look up at you
and you smile.
You smile and you sooth the cuts,
sooth the burns, sooth the bites
and I smile too.

I do not remember when we met,
you do though.
You say that you walked up to me,
as a child,
and asked if we could play together.

You didn't smile then apparently,
but I did.
I smiled and welcomed you,
and your lips twitched up for me.

I love you,
I love you.
My best friend,
or what I call you where you cannot hear me,
My Darling.
