The Monarchy

You always appeared very tall,
a permanent presence.
Maybe it was the ladders
you always scaled or the
high horse you sat upon.

We scrambled up to the top
to view the world from above.
We were the "kings of the castle"
looking down upon your kingdom.

We ascended the herculean heights,
Monkey legs entwined in the branches.
For a short time we were the rulers
Measuring our monarchy.
