NYT releases 1995 Tax Returns.
First, just let me say that I've joined this site to write opinion pieces on politics. I was very hesitant about it because I've never published anything, professionally or just online, and I assumed no one would care what some ass thought about American and world politics. So let's just see how this goes.

Donald Trump and His Possible Tax Evasion.

The New York Times has anonymously obtained a copy of Donald Trump's 1995 tax returns, which showed a near 1 billion dollar loss. A loss of this amount gives Trump the ability to not pay federal income tax for the past 18 years. Surrogates for Trump, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, and New Jersey governor Chris Christie, have both called Trump a "genius" for this. Giuliani, in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper said that he was a genius because had he, Trump, paid income tax for those 18 years, he could have been sued. Sued by who? According to Mr. Giuliani, Trump's lenders and investors. But the 916 million dollar loss was not a loss to Trump's businesses, but to Trump himself, so could he have been sued?

Regardless of whether or not Trump is in fact a genius for this, it's just another thing to add to the list of hypocritical statements or actions done by Trump and his campaign. Why is it hypocritical? Well, take these tweets as examples:

Feb. 23rd, 2012: HALF of Americans don't pay income tax despite crippling govt debt...
May 14, 2012: Facebook billionaire gives up his U.S. citizenship in order to save taxes. I guess 3.8 billion isn't enough...

And there are a few others.

If Trump REALLY wanted to "make America great again," he should probably start paying his taxes. Otherwise, in his supporters' eyes, isn't he no better than the illegal immigrants that, as they say, take advantage of the American government? But Trump supporters will probably just brush this one off, not even make the connection between illegal immigrants not paying taxes and their candidate doing the same, and quickly try and change the subject to Hillary Clinton's 33,000 missing emails.

Speaking of his supporters, how many of them have flocked to Trump because they think he is going to fix the system that has screwed them over? Many of them, if not all of them. And I'd venture a guess, that some of them have hit hard times because of the amount of taxes they've had to pay. Personally, being self employed, I have a very hard time paying my taxes, but I do it. And then there's Donald Trump, gloating about being smart because he doesn't pay his taxes. And he should gloat! He's swimming in money, even if it's not as much as he claims to have. Even if he did have to pay taxes, he'd still be loaded.

Now, no, what Donald Trump has done with these 18 years of not paying federal income tax is not illegal. It's just a loophole in the terrible tax laws. However, it makes no sense to me how he can do this, call himself smart for it, and then turn around and say the Clinton Foundation has has been involved in some illegal activities. It should be noted that there has been no evidence that the Clinton Foundation actually broke the law, much like Trump.

This probably won't hurt Trump's chances of winning the election, because, well, nothing he's done so far as hurt him. At least, not severely. But I do think that this SHOULD open people's eyes, and see that their great savior, Donald J. Trump, is just as big of a liar as he claims that Hillary Clinton is.

At least I can only hope that it does.

Thanks for reading! I hope it wasn't too bad, and hopefully the next ones I write are better. This was done on a whim, and I had little time to prepare what to write.
