How the mind copes with a damaged childhood

You create a frozen pathway
Snaking from the sun
Each paving stone a memory
Remembering what they've done

To take the ice and melt it
Isn't always yours to do
Others hold control in life
Of all that you go through

Like reins that guide a horse's steps
They steer a darkened way
You cry, you fight and try to run
But there's nothing you can say

You're silenced in this nightmare
Pinned into shades of grey
Fading in uncertainness
How you'll survive the day

The time it swallows up your mind
The pitch of fate cascades
Down to rocks to contemplate
Where your heart is laid.

Shattered it now lies before
A world in disbelief
That such a man's revealed!
Of a childhood, he's a thief
