About a tree that was often visited and used over the years.
The Old Oak

The old oak stands tall and proud
In the meadow south of here
There’s a brook that ripples down
The old oak stands tall and proud
Oft’ the old folks gather round
To talk about the weather
The old oak stands tall and proud
In the meadow south of here

In the cool shade ‘neath the oak
At where the brook makes its bend
You can sit along the bank
In the cool shade ‘neath the oak
If you dream to read a book
Or some writing you may tend
In the cool shade ‘neath the oak
At where the brook makes its bend

Watch the children swing so high
Over the brook – ‘gain, again
Memories of when I could fly
Watch the children swing so high
There’s a joy in all their flight
And to share in their ascend
Watch the children swing so high
Over the brook – ‘gain, again

You’ll find ‘round the trunk and limbs
The writing of sweetheart names
Generations carved and trimmed
You’ll find ‘round the trunk and limbs
Some have writ in lovely vim
And a few ‘twas just a game
You’ll find ‘round the trunk and limbs
The carving of sweetheart names

Memories of summer's fest
The old oak had shared with us
Now he withers in his rest
Memories of summer's fest
Broken limbs and half bare breast
With my lips to his, I buss
Memories of summer's fest
The old oak had shared with us
