Miscommunication in the aftermath of a first winter car accident...
Late one evening the phone rang. Sandy answered it to hear her son Chris speaking. "Hi, Mom? Can you do me a favour? Is Dad there?" Sandy replied, "No, he's gone to pick up your sister and her friends at the high school. He's not too happy with you." Sighing, Christopher tried to explain. "Can you tell him what happened to me, please? Can you stop him being, you know, angry? The car is in the lake."
"What ? Whoa bud, you're on your own. I can't help you with this. He's already upset that you abandoned your sister tonight."
"Mom, really? What're you talking about?"
"Hey, if the car's in the lake you're on your own. I cannot justify that to your father. You just got your licence, and this was the first time you borrowed the car. You know what your father is gonna say, this is trouble with a capital 'T'.He's gonna flip out."
"Huh, Mom? No, no, I didn't say that. Where'd you get that idea, that's silly. I mean the car slipped off the road, and it's stuck in snow. You know, it's the road to the lake. Another car passed me, and, I dunno, I pulled over. I guess the trouble is, I pulled over too far. Do you think Dad'll come and rescue me?"
" I suppose he'll have to come and retrieve you. What were you doing near the lake?"
"Me and the guys heard that the trail-groomer missed a corner, and crashed through the ice. It's in the lake. Just tell Dad I'm near the snowmobile trail, and I need help, okay?" (269 words)
