When hell-bent to the will of a jailor,
Blindfolded and bound without question why,
The only way you learn is by failure.

You might be a damned castaway sailor,
A living island trapped by sea and sky,
When hell-bent to the will of a jailor.

No better tool to control behavior
If this faux philosophy you buy,
The only way you learn is by failure.

You've authorized who becomes your savior,
The uppermost master of all that die,
When hell-bent to the will of a jailor.

If you're living the life of a player,
Don't cop out behind this pitiful cry,
"The only way you learn is by failure."

Resist the pitfalls of human nature,
That fancy the world through a lemming's eye
When hell-bent to the will of a jailor,
The only way you learn is by failure.

Villanelle; Consists of nineteen lines and is comprised of two rhymes. The first and third lines of the first verse become the alternating final lines of the next four verses. In the last stanza, they form a couplet and become the "Closure". Finally, all the 2nd lines of each stanza rhyme with each other.
