It would be one of those days...
Her mind drifts to places hidden from the prying eyes of those surrounding her. Sometimes to ancient Norse warriors returning with overburdened plunder, sometimes to an Indian village to prepare bow and arrow for battle, sometimes to the top of the Empire State Building. Today, it was a starship on a mission to save the cosmos. The ever running hum of the shredding machine keeping steady rhythm with the feed provided the backdrop for her latest imaginings.

“So, Callan, how goes it?” The nasal wheezing tonality told her it was her robust boss who would heave himself out of his rolling chair three times a day to make sure his staff was occupied with something. Callan wanted to bite back, “I have to remind myself that I am a CPA”, but dare not.

Her sighed response would go unnoticed, “Haven’t shredded anything vital yet.” By pressing her lips tight together, the only one who heard the “Mr. Dimwit” tag would be the shredding machine to which she valiantly fed the outdated documents deemed ready to be purged.

“Fine, fine.” His toneless whistle of Somewhere Over the Rainbow followed his waddle across the room, fading as he made his way down the hallway. Callan torpedoed his lumbering backside with a muttered, “If I Only Had a Brain would be more your style.”
