We are creatures of habit ... (Form: Free Verse) A Shadows and Light Entry
Rituals

Brilliance ignites the horizon
setting gossamer morning mists
dancing in rainbow hues
in an ancient ritual.

The first streamers of warmth pull,
like invisible marionette strings,
on my consciousness
as steam from the burnished liquid
stirs wakefulness
into my sleep-dulled senses.

The heat from the mug
penetrates my calloused hands
in comforting intimacy
bringing memories
that dance in my mind like
shadows cast upon
a wall.

Reflections, recollections,
reminiscences randomly
float on the quiet
morning minutes.

With a sip and a sigh,
the day begins.
