verses from a time of trouble

Cosmic Joke

Too much wind, too much rain.

Too much hunger, too much pain.

If there was a God, we could put blame.

If there was no God, it would be our shame.

Never happy with the weather,

Never happy with our fate, we have managed to alter

Everything, to throw the world out of kilter,

Kill all living beings and maim, maim, maim.

Philosophers, Buddhists, physicists claim

That actually, reality does not exist.

What we experience and rejoice in is

An elaborate illusion clinging to which causes pain.

But the dentist's office flooded and I have to hang on

To my toothache. The streets are creeks, the creeks

Are rivers, at home we are safe for the time being.

Tomorrow, with any luck, sunshine will be back.

Maybe, just maybe, we have voted for the wrong guy.

Maybe praying to the god of Mammon, Ego and Lust

Brought this house-of-cards down. We burst the bubble.

We pierced the illusion. Now we are out of luck. MP 9/01/2017
