One for the lovers, burn brightly - (thanks for the inspiration Mr Gaiman)
Babylon Candles

We glisten at our edges
Cautiously we burn
Measuring the pledges
We listen for the turns
The leafing of the pages
We wait for those who read
Bent spines show our ages
Whilst dust jackets mislead
For those who read beyond them
There's treasures to behold
Happy endings stitched within hems
and dark chapters sewn bold
Like tapestries we glisten bright
We shimmer in the dark
Praying someone listens right
and plays their fateful part
To read our messy story whole,
a part they're born to play
Low ebbs and great glories sold,
through warts and all, to stay
Sealed down with darkest wax
The canvas of our nights
Woven into gleaming flax
The fibres, wick we light
As stars we burn with edges brash
As skies, they twist and turn
Earth bound candles blaze to ash
Dust scatters as stars burn
All the way to Babylon
On black wax we embark
In Avatars our stars live on
… in books our dreams are marked
