Such things will he give to her.
Onyx and gold
when his patience had gone
could always soothe -
black still and quiet
gold brilliance and shine.

Rubies and sapphires
when his patience had gone
would always soothe -
Red spilled to the floor
blue rising in welts.

Diamonds and opals
shall he give to you
to dance in your eyes
dance in your eyes.
Diamonds and opals
shall he give to you
on the day that he ever should find her.

Emeralds and silver
when his patience had gone
could always persuade -
Green set in his eyes
silver changed hands.

Flint rock and brass shells
when his patience had gone
were meant to compel -
The tang of the smell
a clatter of metal.

Diamonds and opals
he intended for you
to dance in your eyes
dance in your eyes.
But rubies and onyx
did he give to you
the day that his gunman did find her.
