Written for the August 9, 2017 Short Story Newsletter titled "Total Solar Eclipse"
Totality sends chills up the spine of soul,
my muse sits gaping at the video of the event,
and I weep because I can't witness it in person.

I remember Grandpa talking
about an eclipse he witnessed
in his younger years.

He said,
the people in his church were praying
for protection
because of the phenomenon,
and I can understand their reaction.

Even though,
I know what causes a total solar eclipse,
I still find it awe inspiring.

I would pray
if I were to witness the eclipse
in person,
but it would be a prayer of thanksgiving,
of gratitude,
for the opportunity
to see the moon pass
between the sun and Earth.
