Tale of a baby tiger when tigers were at the brink of extinction.
Dear Diary,

This might be the last time I write to you. I will try to pour my heart out as much as possible this time. I have just seen my family wiped out in front of me. Only a week ago I had my father, mother and sister. I was happy. I was content. I didn’t need anything more. I didn’t know that there was anything to fear. My father was the strongest thing I knew. My mother was sure to protect me and my sister no matter what happened. Both of us spend most of our time playing around under their protection. We were afraid of our father. He was fierce and he fought for us. He provided food in our table. He shielded us from the rest of the world. No one is stronger than my father.

The first time I saw them was only a week before. I don’t know where they came from. They were different from us. They came in strange vehicles. They spoke to each other using telepathy. They landed in our area and came out from their ships. My father came between us. I wanted to be their friend. My father did not trust them and so he came between us. His outlook is very backward and he rarely trusts anyone. It was probably his fault. He attacked them first. I know in my heart that he attacked them for us. However I still think it would have been better to be their friend. My father attacked them. That is the last I saw of him. My mother took me and my sister far away.

This was not our area. I didn’t know anyone around here. I didn’t recognise any of my neighbours. Everyone was a stranger here. I didn’t even know the correct number to call for help. I was helpless here. However my mother was here. She will protect my sister and me. I knew in any case I was now the man of the family. I needed to be strong. Although I depended on my mother she can’t know that. She should feel that I can protect her. Those things that killed my father were still strange. Was our planet invaded? Those things were strange. Their craft was strange. But still my father recognised them and knew they were dangerous. They could have been aliens. Naah it’s not possible that they wanted to enslave us.

I was wrong. We ran away from them two days back. They tracked us. They found us and attacked again. My father was not there so this time we waited for them to attack. I wanted to be their friend. I was the first one to see them. I walked up to them with a peace signal. My mother came to protect me. She attacked them again to save me. Those things had some kind of a weird zapping gun. They struck my mom and we couldn’t even see what hit her. She fell down bleeding. I didn’t even understand what happened; I did what I could do the best. I ran. I ran as fast as I could. All my neighbours around me were getting zapped but I ran.

3 days later I was hungry. I had nowhere else to go. So I returned to my hometown. I hoped I would find my sister. She wasn’t there. There wasn’t anyone in the town anymore. The entire place was a ghost town. I called out for my mom. Then I called out for my sister. No one was there. Then I called out for any one. There was no answer for sometime. It was quite for a while; till I heard them.

They came through the trees. They were weird beings. They had strange guns in there hand. They weren’t anything I had seen before. I still wanted to be their friend. They were stronger than my father. I have not seen my mother and sister for three days now. They need my help. Our species was always the aggressive one and I blame them for not being friends with these aliens. Peace is ideal for both of our civilisation. I surrendered.

I was captured. Surely they didn’t trust me after what my father and mother did. I can’t blame the aliens. I would probably behave the same if I were in there situation. The put me in a cage where I learned what happened to the world. I was in the middle of the city so I got the entire news from everyone. Finally everything was clear.

1411 that’s how many of us were left. A group of the aliens had realised that our dying number was a source of income. Every telepathic communicating device sold would save one of us in their world. I saw them killing each other for even less. It was their world. I felt threatened in their world. They wanted to save us while they themselves were killing us. We will live till the communicating device was being sold. Today I don’t know if they even remember how many of us are left. Me? I will live till I am cute. However I will wait till the day I can bite off at least one of their throat in one bite, just like my dad did when he was protecting my mother, my sister and me.

There is just one last thing dear diary. Today it’s me. Tomorrow it could be someone else, writing the same story. I wish I was in their position. Then, only then would things be different.
