A Place of Rest
Lay me down
beneath Virginia's sky
Not too bad a place
as soldiers lie

Salute me smartly
under October's sun
Quiet company halt,
no where to run

Haunt the hillsides
never to be at rest
Gave the nation over
its youthful best

From the shores of France
to Vietnam's jungle
Soldiers suffered from
foreign policy bungles

Mrs. Lee's house
upon that yonder hill
oversees the bones Civil War
long left to chill

A silent mourner
cries softly at my grave
Though she did care
not one was saved
