I was a queen. Why did they add evil to it? Why must I be seen evil for trying to survive?
"mirror, mirror on the wall..."

"Deirdra! why have you not used your gifts? it might be a bit big for you but this necklace will make you look beautiful."
My mother had entered my sanctuary.
Even with a stern face, my mother had no wrinkles on her fair face. Her cheeks were a subtle pink that complimented her small pink lips. Her eyes seemed to glow with anger. The blue seemed to liquify as she closed her dark eyelashes, her eyes seemed to grow more intense.
She moved closer to me.Her blue dress swishing my hard floors. Her raven black running down her back in curls. She was slithering into my bedroom.
My bedroom...
My bedroom was beautiful
White walls up to the sky.Glass windows that turned to doors, outside an arch of flowers where I could admire nature. My bed was humongous, always dressed up in pillows and useless colours.

And of course, my most prized possession. An oval mirror framed by gold metal that swerved and became flowers or leaves. It hung on top of my white vanity table. My table would have many things I did not care for.Things to make me fairer.Jewellery.I was six. I did not care for such things.

I sat across from my mirror sitting in the uncomfortable golden chair.

"mother I am twelve years of age.I don't care about fairness and beauty. I care about nature and animals. Why must you always buy me things to improve me instead of things that I am interested in?"

I stared at my small face.My eyes were brighter than my mothers but grey. Unlike her long locks, my midnight hair fell around my face in straight lines. My plump lips seemed to have red blood running across them.

"Because we are women in this cruel world. We can only move up through our beauty. Our beauty is a weapon that makes this unequal world a bit fairer. We are only as powerful as our looks are striking."
She was right of course. We could nly achevie wealth through mrriage and we the only we could could have our way was through manipulation.
"I am sorry but that is how the world works.
