Finding solace within, whilst living with domestic abuse
In a quiet place at the back of her mind
Lies a secret room where nobody goes.
Under lock and key, she hides her fears
The things she doesn't want them to know.
Every nightmare, every challenge,
Every hand that was used against her.
Every scream her lips did utter
Every torn out length of hair.

When all around is still and silent,
Into that room she often goes.
To refresh her mind and hone her senses
To the things that no-one knows.
She sits among them, fears cascading
From her soul, so fragile and cold.
She reminds herself of the pain she suffered
And the reason her story cannot be told.

Beyond the nightmares, fears and danger
Stands the mightiest of castle walls.
The drawbridge raised to keep out the enemy,
Within, an army that will never fall.
For in this place she knows no sorrow
Her existence is no travesty.
She rules this land of joy and laughter
With her peaceful majesty.
