If only I had a hint you were going to leave this world.
A wisp of wind
caresses my cheek
and with it, I smell
the essence of you.

It's been too long
since you've been gone,
but I can still hear
your resounding laughter.

Some nights I lie awake
waiting and hoping
to get a fleeting glimpse.
Hours pass, I finally sleep.

If only I had a hint
that you were going
to leave this world,
I would have spent every
possible minute by your side.

Learning all about the life
you so bravely embraced
memorizing every single detail,
enjoying each radiant smile.

Now I can only visit you
within my scattered dreams,
treasuring the lost moments
stolen by the reaper.

Within this world
         (fantasy or real?)
truly matters not.
          I can see you
                   feel you
                   touch you.

Upon awakening, I re-close my eyes
trying to engrave the encounter
into my head, heart, and soul.

I know one day our reunion,
will know no end.
