exploring meaning
we are broken—
every shard a razor.
touching us draws blood.

we are broken—
pieces scattered in colorful
heaps, swept up, discarded
until we can’t see where we end
and another of us begins.

we are broken—
cracked. the hollow spaces
within us have exploded
in the kiln. we leak.

we are broken—
that is how the light gets in.
