Written For The Christmas in July Poetry Contest
In their minds a baby dream
Winter snowfall, white and clean
First storm of the season lies
Fresh blanket arrives new skies

Christmas Eve, much thought of snow
God's precious blanket, wind blows
What will life's future now hold?
Keep child safe and warm from cold

Due on the 4th of July
Flags abundant, banners fly
I was born on the 9th day
Only time late, so they say

No cooling came from the sky
That summer, heat was on high
1st birthday Maryland's shores
Years on, my basset hound snores

My mother sang Christmas songs
Summer's child cannot go wrong
Born in the firecrackers' wake
It's my day, pass me some cake!

The poem is written in Syllabic verse, 7 syllables per line,
and,
Yes,
my birthday is July 9.
