Mike tries his standard lines, but strikes out.
"Wow, look at that doll," Mike said.

"Oh no, here we go again," Jake replied. "Every female that wanders by gets your attention."

"I can't help it when they all look so sweet,' Mike chuckled. "Look at that curly hair, those mysterious dark eyes, who wouldn't be in love."

"Love he calls it," Jake said, shaking his head. "They have another word for it in the old country."

"Hi there, I'm Mike," was his standard opening line, as he trotted up to her.

No reaction other than a disdainful glance.

That was enough to get a laugh out of Jake. Which resulted in Mike turning toward Jake to show him his teeth, although without a snarl. Didn't want to scare off the sweet young thing.

"Now don't be like that," Mike tried another of his favorite lines. "Haven't seen you around here before."

"And if I'm lucky," was the sarcastic reply, "you won't again."

That was enough to get Jake rolling on the ground.

Mike thought of teaching Jake a lesson, but didn't want to lose focus on the main objective, the sweet young thing.

"You must have moved in with the new family across the fields," trying a more personal approach, as he moved in closer.

Too close for Martha, who'd been watching from the kitchen window.

"Walter, Walter," came the cry from the back porch of the house. "You get those mutts away from that poodle, before they cause trouble with the new neighbors."

Slapping his cap against his pants, Walter herded Mike and Jake into the barn.

"See what you've done now," Jake complained. "We'll be stuck inside for the rest of the day while your sweet young thing goes on her way."
