"Sleepover" 8/31 Flash Fiction Challenge

I can do this. I am beautiful. Yet, my reflection in the bathroom mirror tells me differently. I certainly don't feel beautiful. Miss. Cherry, my guidance counselor, swears by positive self talk. "Tell yourself wonderful things daily," she insists, "and soon enough, you will believe it." I take a deep breath to compose myself before returning to the others from the sleepover.

"No! You didn't!" exclaims Bethany sending the girls into a fit of laughter.

"But wait, listen, listen! So, she told me that her mom wouldn't let her come tonight! How embarrassing!" declares Amanda.

"I have an idea. Let's prank call her," suggests Bethany.

"Yes, girl, yes!! Where have you been my whole life?" Amanda asks, jumping off the bed and rushing towards the phone.

"Hey, actually, I'm starving, why don't we ask your mom if we can order Domino's?" I ask, hoping they get distracted from their idea.

"Yeah, okayyy fatass, don't worry, you'll eat," Amanda taunts as she rolls her eyes, "Right after we prank call Marissa!"

"Lets tell her mom that we're Domino's and we're just confirming her order of 15 pepperoni pizza's," raves Bethany.

"Would you like cheese pizza?" Amanda jokes in a thick accent, falling onto her side, slapping her leg, while laughing so hard that it comes out silently.

"You sound Asian," Bettany laughs.

"I didn't know you guys were talking about Marissa, she's not home," I lie, "Haven't you guys heard her bragging to the teachers about her family's home in Vermont? She'll be there all weekend."

"Damn, really? No fun! Fine, order your pizza, fatty." Amanda whines, tossing me the phone.

The smile spread across my face has little to do with pizza.
