Sometimes a place can be deadly. This is a contest entry.

The deserted factory laid in pieces
behind the fence barricade
There was total chaos among the workers
when the siren blared during the disaster
Toxic vapors spread over people,
the field and the neighbor's farms for miles
By autumn, the chemicals had done
their job of killing plants and creatures
One day, a flock of crows found a spot
to land to find food
They took a few sips of water from
the ground and moved away
The next day, their tongues tingled,
their skins turned red
Eventually, their feathers fell
off their wings and blew away
With their last agonizing caw,
they fell down and died
Next week, people in hazmat suits
picked up the hardly recognizable corpses
They nodded their heads
Their trial run of the new weapon
had passed it's test.
