Directional predetermination
This poem was entered in and tied for the win in "The Writer's Cramp.

A lie blew in that day
from the north
We didn't know enough to look down,
inevitably paying attention to the wrong thing

Our arrogance was a brilliant exhibition
from years of hubris, building that Titanic
No music played that day, or any other,
to warn us of our mistake and stop us

Maybe it was a simple road block, like an iceberg floating,
after all was said and done,
not mattering much in that big, legendary scheme of things
Finally, a foot note to a long, brilliant career

Shattered in the water or the street, inconsequential to those who look the other way....
