A free verse poem about my favorite season. Shadows and Light Contest entry

Sun surrenders to overcast skies
Leaves change from green to red
The days get a little shorter
The air gets a little crisper

Gone is the heat of summer
As memories of vacation fade
Everyone buckles down and gets to work
As the holidays appear on the horizon

Break out the heavy coats
Pack away the swimsuits
Scarves replace shorts
And sandals become boots

Some resent the encroaching dreariness
Others rejoice as the world transitions
But whether you look forward to it or not
Autumn always comes
