My Crackerjack Gift
Having spent the first ten years of my life in Alaska’s interior, I was overwhelmed by the amenities I found in Orange County, California--football, boy’s club, YMCA, after other school activities. If I could name all the new found perks the list would exceed my flash fiction word count. While I was often overwhelmed, I still found much pleasure in simple surprise--Crackerjacks.

“Joe! Look at this!” I exclaimed, pulling a fine quartz watch and gold chain I found buried in the caramel corn.

“Yeah. What did you expect, a tin whistle?” he relied, suppressing a yawn.
