What candles mean to me, and a little history behind them.

“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matt 5:14-16).

From the very beginning God has provided light when he created heavens and earth, positioning the sun and the moon in the sky. Just imagine what it would have been like stumbling around in the dark.

What a lighted candle means to me? I light a candle in remembrance of my family and friends that died, when the electricity goes out, and I feel it’s a symbol of holy illumination of the spirit of truth; Frankly, it represents Christ as the light of the world.

When meditating, I light candles all around me which brings me peace, and warmth. The power of a simple candle brings meaning to my life as I say a simple prayer.

I watch the altar boys light the candles at church, and remember when Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” The lit candles also remind me that Jesus is there with me as I worship.

Candles are a light in the darkness, a symbol of holy illumination of the spirit of truth. The fire of the candle symbolizes the light of Christ. The candle is blessed on Easter, which represents Christ’s triumph over evil.

The candle’s components have great meaning too. The fire’s radiance — Means obedience, heat, and humility. The wax — pure flesh or humanity, The wick — the soul, light, love, and divinity, The flame — godhead, and The fire — means obedience, heat, and humility.

Candles are not permanent which means that our time on earth is fleeting. The straightness of a candle shows me to stand straight before the eyes of the Lord as my deeds must be straightforward too.

As we all know, candles are useless without a spark, reminding us that we are all dead and useless until we are lit with the spark of the Holy Spirit. It reminds us that we must ask God to come and abide in us, so that our soul is cleansed of all impurities. If we do this, we may be saved.

I love candles, and have one in every room of my house. There are different colored candles with a different meaning behind them, but I prefer the pure white. People put a candle in the window to guide their loved one home, especially sons and daughters who fight in the military.

“Look at how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness.” - Anne Frank

Few things are as inviting as a cozy home adorned with flickering candles. It’s like twinkling stars or fireflies on a summer night, the candles act as a light in the darkness and inspire a sense of warmth, hope and magic. A simple candle is rich in spiritual history which I couldn’t stop reading about. *Smile*
