Lost amidst the nothing
Amidst the new year drift
We try to cling to something
Through last year's stars we sift

Through memories, through thoughts they raise

Counting through the pearls conceived
Reworking lengthened plays

Acts that run 'neath stranger suns
Burnt hotter, longer blazed
Events unplanned, a perfect run
… ran quick, confused and dazed

Spoilt with the weather weaved
Spoilt with the views
An ambience to treasure, breve
The audience you'd choose

For foreign shores adventured, gold
For Spanish islands seen
Solo journeys ventured bold
For friends and what they mean

A strand of Summer, burning strong
Beats branded, borrowed goods
With memories of fire long
Lit up through Coney Woods

With effigies still burning bright,
in Etherow Country Park
Moovin through the turning right
With nights long, getting dark

To a Halloween bowled over
With people missed and met
Beats and lights remembered,
with stages of regret

Setting deep within our ruts
The needle hits its groove
Delving in the deeper cuts
Our shadows dance and move

To places we daren't dream we'd see
... nor likely will again
Round people we would rarely be
… yet yearn them all the same

With hope, that if we get our chance
We'll take it up next time
On the fringes, flawed we dance
Waiting in a line

Of memories, of Summer spent
and warmth still burning through
A heat the mind remembers rent
Midst Winter's frosty hue

Sifting through to find our part
Such stars will have their cost
Drifting through a new years start
… 'midst nothing, we are lost
